More About Restauration’s Gladmat Dish:

The Taste of the Crossing

Before departing for New York in 1825, food had to withstand long weeks at sea.

Salted meat, root vegetables, and other provisions that could be stored onboard were cooked together into a hearty, warming stew—simple, honest, and made for the voyage.

“Provisions: Gabba’s Heavily Salted Sailor’s Stew” («Proviantering: Gabbas ramsalte lapskaus») is inspired by the food the emigrants may have brought with them on their journey aboard the Restauration.

This is more than just a meal.
It is a small taste of the hope, uncertainty, and journey across the ocean.

Both in 1825 and in 2025.
Here, you can stand on deck, feel the sea breeze, and for a moment imagine how the crossing to North America began.

The Restauration festival booth was nominated for the "Gladmat Experience of the Year 2025" award.

Restauration has returned to her home port at Finnasand Quay after several memorable days at the GladMat Festival in Stavanger.

Through engaging storytelling, onboard activities, and unique visitor experiences, we were honored to be nominated for the 2026 GladMat Experience of the Year Award, alongside outstanding nominees including Ystepikene, Spiseriet, Hotel Victoria, and MS Sandnes.
We congratulate Ystepikene on receiving the award and are proud of the nomination, which recognizes far more than food—it celebrates hospitality, storytelling, and experiences that create lasting memories.

Throughout the festival, visitors were invited to discover the story of Restauration through flavors, stories, and glimpses of her remarkable journey from 1825 to 2025.
