Invitation: Launch of Restauration Aquavit – January 21

Invitation to the launch of Restauration Aquavit on January 21 in Stavanger, Norway

Aquavit sealed in two wooden barrels aboard the Restauration took part in the historic voyage and crossed the Atlantic following the same sailing route and the same departure and arrival dates as in 1825..

The aquavit barrels passed careful inspection by two customs officers aboard ship in Falmouth, England—where, in 1825, the spirits carried on the vessel Restauration in the same area nearly led to the arrest of the crew and confiscation of the vessel.
After three months at sea, via Madeira and the Caribbean, they arrived in New York City, where the Crown Prince, ambassadors, members of Parliament, Norwegian mayors and officials—and thousands of Norwegians and Norwegian Americans—welcomed the ship.

The two barrels were also sailed back across the Atlantic in rough autumn weather and arrived in Stavanger exactly two months after arriving in New York. There they were unloaded and transported to Det Norske Brenneri for bottling.

See more information about the aquavit that sailed aboard the Restauration and the role of spirits in Norwegian society in the early 1800s.

The launch will take place at:
The bar Proud Mary
Skagenkaien 6, 4006 Stavanger in Norway - just a stone’s throw from the quay in Vågen where the barrels and the Restauration departed on July 4, witnessed by tens of thousands, and sailed out the Byfjord alongside the Royal Yacht.
