By plane, train, tram, and the last hundred meters in the snow, with storytelling by Jens Flesjå, a loaf from Rosenkildehaven Bakery, the ship’s Sailor Roast – our anniversary coffee, and two mini bottles of Prøvetur Aquavit under the arm, we made our way to the U.S. Embassy in Oslo. Bringing such gifts is not a common occurrence on U.S. territory in Norway. However, learning on our ship’s historical significance, we ultimately got everything approved and allowed inside.
It was an honor for the Restauration Friends Association, with their Restauration Crossings200 voyage, to express condolences for the late U.S. President Jimmy Carter, at the top of the first page in the condolence protocol. My he rest in peace.
We took this opportunity to invite the U.S. Ambassador to the commemoration events scheduled for July 4th in Stavanger. The embassy staff confirmed that they are looking forward to participating and are very enthusiastic and understand the significance of this 200th anniversary.
So, we expect the ambassador to attend — but we’ll have to wait and see who will be the next U.S. Ambassador to Norway.
