Sustainable outfits for the skipper, co-sailors and guests on the Restauration Crossings200 voyage

In line with our values of sustainability and history, the outfits for the skipper and co-sailors of the RestaurationCrossings200 voyage will be both environmentally friendly and unique. The outfits are tailored by Arak Work and Rehabilitation Center on Finnøy, where sewing is an important part of their activities.

Instead of buying new textiles, old tablecloths are transformed into aprons, and curtains get a new life as skirts, among other things. This contributes to reuse and a more sustainable approach – values that are highly relevant in today’s society.

See more pictures of the large and varied clothing collection from Arak Work and Rehabilitation Center.

Arak is a municipal low-threshold program for people on long-term sick leave or disability benefits. Through meaningful activities like sewing that foster skill mastery and inclusion in the local community, they create beautiful outfits for our historic voyage. See the newspaper article about the sewing work done by Arak.

We are proud to collaborate with Arak and look forward to both crew members and the skipper wearing these timeless, eco-friendly garments on the way to the Crossings200 anniversary!

Other clothing Projects

There are also members who have sewn clothes for themselves or other members, using old textiles.

And Suzanna’s lille systue (little sewing room) on the island of Rennesøy, which did a deep dive into clothing from the early 1800s. Suzanna also designed her own period-appropriate men’s outfit for use on the Restauration voyage in 2025.

Tora’s Bunad

The Restauration Friendship Association has received a bunad that symbolizes history and tradition.
Donated by a partner in the project Rød tur – Livskraft og kreft (Red Journey – Vitality and Cancer).
The bunad belonged to Tora, a brave woman from Lom who traveled to America in the 1800s.
And now, 142 years later, the bunad will be worn by Lovise, the youngest member of the Restauration Friendship Association, as a tribute to Tora and her legacy.
