Let’s Make it Happen. Again – join us in making a new voyage to New York in 2025 possible!

Restauration Venneforening invites the Norwegian people to join us on a historic voyage! On 4 July 2025, the emigrant ship Restauration will set sail for New York, exactly 200 years after the first organized emigration of Norwegians to America.

The emigrants sacrificed everything they owned to finance a ship that could carry them to America. Now we are asking the Norwegian people to contribute so that we can recreate this journey to honor those who left in 1825.

Restauration, originally called Emmanuel, was built as a “jakt” in Hardanger in 1801. Today’s Restauration was built on Finnøy and launched in 2010. Now it needs a restoration similar to the one it received 200 years ago.

Restauration needs to be upgraded in hull and rigging, with more ballast and adaptations for sailing. To secure the crew of twelve, we need safety equipment, life rafts, life suits, distress beacons, bilge equipment, weather station, communication equipment, port fees and insurance. The list of necessities is long, and there is a considerable amount of work ahead of us.

This requires financial resources that the Friends do not currently have at their disposal.

We encourage everyone who is able to do so to meet up along the Byfjorden in Stavanger on July 4, 2025 to wave us goodbye. Everyone is also welcome to be part of the welcoming committee when we arrive at the port of New York on October 9, 2025.
